SPECIAL EVENTS
June 1-5, 2015, at the Protea Hotel Kruger Gate next to Kruger Park
The Epoch of Reionization is an emerging frontier in studies of galaxy formation and cosmology. This conference aims to bring together observers and theorists working on wide-ranging aspects of reionization spanning the full range of the electromagnetic spectrum. Observations are progressing rapidly such as near-infrared studies of high-redshift galaxies, quasars, and IGM absorbers, far-infrared studies of atomic and molecular emission, microwave background polarization measures, radio studies mapping the redshifted 21cm line, optical studies of nearby relics of reionization, and distant gamma ray bursts. Simulators are likewise developing powerful new tools to follow the interplay of the first stars and galaxies with intergalactic gas during the EoR. By bringing together disparate groups in a small, interactive workshop, we will explore new synergies and chart an optimal path towards understanding the last major phase transition in the Universe.
2nd CET Workshop: Reionization:
A Multiwavelength Approach
1st CET Workshop:
The Emergence of Disk Galaxies
The CET hosted its inaugural annual workshop on extragalactic astronomy in November, 2013. These small, focused workshops bring together international experts to debate a hot topic in extragalactic astronomy during an immersive, discussion-oriented week of meetings.
This year's workshop examined the physical processes that lead to the formation of the disk galaxies in the Universe. New observational and simulation capabilities are revolutionizing our understanding of how the Hubble sequence first emerged during Cosmic Noon, the most active period of cosmic galaxy growth. This workshop was attended by 35 theorists and observers covering a range of aspects related to disk galaxies and their assembly over cosmic time.
